A thread runs through it…

My textile art work incorporates second-hand textiles and hand embroidery. Although mindful of the rich and rigorous tradition of handwork, my interests lie in the creative viability and versatility of hand embroidery, particularly with regard to the potential it offers to a contemporary textile art practice. Second-hand textiles and clothing are richly imbued with history and meaning and by incorporating them into my work, I build upon this history, thus creating new narratives. I find cloth’s intimate relationship to the body, its ubiquity in our lives, its associations with the home, its links to the past and its relevance to the future as a source of constant inspiration. I am concerned with the transience of the human experience and the capacity of cloth and clothing to express this fragility and vulnerability.
